In recent days I have found the news extremely interesting. You see, I am a democrat and a displaced Alaskan currently lost in what we know as the lower 48. Being Alaskan, I was in shock that John McCain chose Sarah Palin over more qualified political contenders that could have potentially led him to victory in this election. Her lack of experience and possible criminal behavior so early in her career was the least of my concerns next to her track record with Alaska’s wildlife.

Sarah Palin is the female version of Elmer Fudd; but instead of “waskly wabbits”, Palin brutally tackles the big game. She has proven to Alaska and soon the world that she uses her authority to serve her own self interests, whether it be supporting a barbaric aerial hunting policy or attempting to use her power to intimidate people who do not agree with her beliefs or dare cross her.  The fact that Palin supports and partakes in such brutality proves that she is unfit to serve this great Nation. Can our country afford to trust someone with her character to undo the damage created by our current administration? Do we want to take that risk?

Sarah Palin also supports the drilling of the protected Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. This is a project that will cost over a billion American dollars to reduce the cost of oil by roughly fifty cents a barrel. This is assuming, of course, that there are resources to be found. According to Anwr.org, two hundred million barrels of fuel can be taken from ANWAR and production “could last for 25 years, maybe longer”. Could? Not to mention, the U.S. Department of Energy says that we wouldn’t see the full potential of this oil until 2026. Too little too late, and not enough to help the current state of our economy.

Never before in American history have voters been more concerned about the environment. From coast to coast, more and more voters are getting into the “Green Trend”. These voters, while focusing on the environment, are also paying attention to the future of local wildlife and protecting endangered animals. You would think that a potential presidential candidate and his running mate would understand what is quickly becoming the American ideal. Instead we were presented with Sarah Palin. A woman who will continue this administration’s legacy of running this country by keeping them in fear, as she demonstrated by claiming Barack Obama associates with terrorists.

I urge all who may read this to take one thing in consideration. This election shouldn’t be just about Democrat or Republican, black or white; Voters must pay close attention to the character of those we choose to elect. It will take more than big guns and bullying to cause change in our current situation and Sarah Palin just doesn’t have what it takes.
